Name: Allan Brown

Restaurant: Fanelli’s Restaurant in Merchant Square, 62 Candleriggs, Glasgow, G1 1LE.

Cuisine style: Casual dining with a classic Italian style menu.

What made you want to become a chef? Living in the West Coast of Scotland with so much fresh produce, especially seafood.

First job? Commis Chef at the Alexander Hotel.

Mentor? Paul Cuthbert of Ayr Racecourse.

Describe your style of cooking? Simplistic, I like to let the food do the talking.

Signature dish? Pan fried sea trout with caramelised baby beets and warm horseradish potato salad; which incidentally is just about to be launched on our new menu come the 1st of June.

Most used utensil? Palette knife.

Most underrated ingredient? Beetroot.

Most overrated ingredient? Fillet steak.

What do you cook when you get home from work? Not much, I’ve taught my girlfriend a lot so she’s the cook at home…

Favourite chef? Marco Pierre White.

Food heaven and hell? Food heaven is any kind of seafood and food hell has got to be lemongrass.

You can invite 5 people (dead or alive) for dinner, who would they be?

Hitler!

Marco Pierre White

George Best

Denzel Washington

Princess Diana

Kirstie’s new Location Location Location … Miller Street in Glasgow!

PROPERTY guru Kirstie Allsopp is waging war on flat-pack furniture – from a disused shop in Glasgow.

The Location, Location, Location presenter is filming a new home improvement programme all this week in Miller Street in the Merchant City.

Her production crew has transformed a vacant shop unit into the set for the new show, entitled Fill Your House For Free. She is on a mission to give life to unwanted items of furniture.

The 41-year-old said: “New is not necessarily best, unless it’s shoes and handbags.”

“In this of all cities, why would we reject our past? I love the fact that Glasgow has all these incredible, solid buildings which have been here for hundreds of years now.”
